What Are Energy Blocks?

Energy blocks are deeply ingrained patterns — beliefs, emotions, and unresolved experiences — that create resistance to the flow of abundance in your life. Think of them as kinks in a garden hose: the water (abundance) is always flowing, but the kinks stop it from reaching you.

These blocks often form in childhood through repeated messages about money, worthiness, and what's possible for people "like us." They become unconscious programs running in the background, quietly sabotaging your conscious desires no matter how diligently you practice affirmations or visualization.

Common Signs of Energy Blocks Around Abundance

  • You work hard but money never seems to accumulate.
  • Opportunities appear but something always seems to go wrong at the last moment.
  • You feel guilty when you spend money on yourself.
  • You secretly believe wealthy people are greedy or corrupt.
  • You self-sabotage when success feels "too close."
  • You feel undeserving of good things or expect them to be taken away.

Identifying Your Core Blocks

The first step to clearing blocks is becoming conscious of them. Try this journaling exercise:

  1. Write at the top of a page: "Money is…" and complete the sentence with the first 10 things that come to mind without filtering.
  2. Then write: "Rich people are…" and do the same.
  3. Finally: "I can't be wealthy because…"

Review your responses. Any negative, limiting, or fearful associations you've written down are clues to your energy blocks.

Practices for Energetic Cleansing

1. EFT Tapping (Emotional Freedom Technique)

EFT combines gentle tapping on acupressure points with verbal acknowledgment of limiting beliefs. It's been widely used as a tool to release emotional charge from old memories and beliefs. A simple tapping sequence on the karate chop point while saying "Even though I believe I don't deserve abundance, I deeply and completely accept myself" can begin to loosen long-held blocks.

2. Forgiveness Work

Resentment — toward others or yourself — is one of the most common energetic dams. Practicing forgiveness (not condoning, but releasing) frees up enormous emotional energy that can then flow toward creating abundance. Ho'oponopono, the Hawaiian forgiveness practice, uses four simple phrases: I love you. I'm sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you.

3. Physical Space Cleansing

Your environment reflects and reinforces your inner state. Decluttering your home — especially financial paperwork, broken items, and objects tied to negative memories — signals readiness to receive. Open windows regularly, introduce natural light, and consider using cleansing herbs like sage or palo santo if that resonates with you.

4. Gratitude as a Frequency Shifter

Gratitude is the fastest way to shift from a scarcity frequency to an abundance frequency. Start a daily practice of listing 5–10 specific things you're grateful for regarding what you already have. This trains your mind to see evidence of abundance already present in your life, which draws more of it toward you.

5. Abundance Meditation

A short daily meditation (10–15 minutes) where you visualize yourself freely giving and receiving — money, love, opportunities, kindness — helps dissolve the energetic tension around receiving. Many people find it easier to give than receive, and this imbalance alone can block abundance.

The Inner Work Is the Real Work

Abundance isn't a destination you reach by collecting enough external things. It's a state of alignment — feeling whole and open enough to allow good things in. The practices above aren't instant fixes; they're consistent investments in your inner landscape. As you clear what no longer serves you, you create the energetic space for the abundance that has always been available to you to finally flow through.
